Resulting in at least $150M in new funding for K-12 education each year.

In 2021, New Day Nevada worked with a coalition of partners to get the international mining industry to start paying more of its fair share in taxes.

With the threat of three unfriendly ballot initiatives, the mining industry struck a last-minute deal with the legislature and Governor Sisolak (Assembly Bill 495) to start paying a 1% levy on large silver and gold mines. In addition to the $85 million a year the new law is expected to generate for K-12 education, AB 495 also redirects all current mining net proceeds taxes to the Education Fund instead of the General Fund. Overall, AB 495 is expected to deliver more than $150M a year for K-12 education.
